Abstract

This chapter investigates an exploratory design that uses hierarchical multiperiodic structures for controlling the flow of light in unconventional ways. Further, these structures are introduced in a photodetector to improve the latters optoelectronic performance. Using finite element simulations of optical transport, we show that hierarchical structures, comprising of structures corresponding to more than one length scale, can provide new pathways to control the flow of light. These pathways are unavailable in more superficial structures. Using simulations and experiments, we see that hierarchically structured platforms improve spectral uniformity in the optoelectronic response of broadband organic electronic photodetectors. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
