Abstract

Distamycin analog I was prepared in order to examine its DNA binding properties. Thus, condensation of $3-O_2NC_6H_4COCl$ with $3-H_2NC_6H_4CO_2Me$ (II), sapon., acid chlorination, and recondensation with II gave $3-O_2NC_6H_4CONHC_6H_4CO_2Me$ (III). Sapon. of III, acid chlorination, condensation with $H_2NCH_2CH_2CN$, hydrolysis, hydrogenation, and formylation gave I.
