Abstract
Among polyanionic materials, Na2FeP2O7 system has attracted much attention towards large-scale economic sodium-ion battery applications. High thermal stability, facile Na-ion migration, and high operational stability has made this system a suitable subject to explore Li-ion and K-ion intercalation into the pyrophosphate host matrix. Pyrophosphate (P2O7)4− anion offers better safety than other phosphate-based cathodes. Further, Fe-based systems are less hazardous and safer electrode materials and can offer a new class of cathode materials for Li-ion and K-ion battery applications. Excellent electrochemistry of triclinic Na2FeP2O7 structure (space group: P ̄1) has been studied using in situ XRD for few cycles tested against Na-ion intercalation (vs. Na/Na+), which clearly supports and demonstrates the expansion and contraction of the structure during Fe3+/Fe2+ redox process.
