Abstract

Implementation of smart meters with replacing the traditional energy meters are increasing each day because of the possibility of two-way communication between the customer and the utility. The data from the smart meters provide an opportunity for utilities and the clients in maintaining the accurate database, the data will be useful to understand various parameters like: phase balancing, energy monitoring, billing, planning for future loads, outage management, to find energy losses, harmonic distortions etc. The present work describes the development of smart energy management for the institute campus network. The data obtained from the smart sensors/data logger and developed customized software helps in precious monitoring and control of devices employed across multiple locations in the campus microgrid. The work highlights some important outcomes of the smart energy management system (SEMS) adopted in the campus network like phase imbalance, maximum power consumption, total harmonic distortion etc.
