Abstract

This chapter focuses on the application of various 3D printing techniques for the fabrication of various composite sandwich structures. The advent of additive manufacturing techniques has eased the production of these composites and unlocked new avenues of application, enabling larger adaptability of these composites through minimal risks. However, challenges and limitations on the manufacturing front have posed myriad hurdles to exploit the advantages of such structures fully. Right from polymers, where 3D printing has established a firm ground, the discussion is furthered on to include more complex composite structures of polymer, metal and ceramic entities. This chapter focuses on an application-oriented description of real-world uses of these composites and their prospects. This chapter discusses the performance of additively manufactured sandwiched composites in applications including biomedical, aerospace, aeronautical, automotive, tissue engineering and sports fields. The performance of these composites in such applications is critically reviewed to comprehend their advantages and limitations.
