Abstract
AlCoFeMnNiCu coatings were prepared by using electrodeposition route to study the effects of heat treatment on morphological behaviour and tribological properties of high entropy alloy (HEA) coatings. The microstructure, corrosion properties, microhardness and wear resistance were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), corrosion studies, Vickers microhardness test, scratch test respectively to analyze the behavior and mechanism of wear. The results showed that the as deposited high entropy alloy exhibited FCC and BCC dual phase structures. Corrosion measurements were studied in 3.5 NaCl corrosive environment at ambient temperature replicating aerated artificial seawater solution. HEA showed higher corrosion rate than the substrate mild steel, and also further improvising the corrosion resistance after heat treatment. Hence, these findings propose an appropriate method like thermal annealing for improving corrosion performance of HEA thin films. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2024.
