Abstract
The products of saturation temperature T and liquid density $p_f$, fluid phase density difference $p_f-p_g$, heat of vaporization $h_{fg}$, difference between the critical and the saturation pressure $p_c-p$ and velocity of sound in the liquid phase $u_f$ show maxima at certain temperatures. Furthermore, the product of saturation pressure and the difference between the critical and the saturation temperature $ [p(T_c - T ) ]$ , and the vapour enthalpy $h_g$ also show maxima. It is shown that all these extrema occur within a limited range of a characteristic temperature T*. This paper lists, for Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, $N_2$, $O_2$, $CH_4$, $C_2H_6$ and $C_2H_4$, the temperatures at which the maxima occur and the magnitudes of the maxima in reduced quantities. If equations of state can take into account these criteria, their accuracy and ability to predict the slope properties can be enhanced.
