Abstract
Discontinuous precipitation (DP) reactions are among the most important solid-state phenomena that occur during the migration of grain boundaries (GBs) in many engineering alloys. Migration involves solute redistribution across the moving GB and the solute diffusion assumed to occur only along it. In this work, we show the atomic scale compositional analysis across a migrating GB during recrystallization in a multicomponent alloy that reveals evidence of bulk/lattice diffusion in a precipitate free buffer zone ahead of the RF, and solute segregations at local interfaces that aid to determine the rate-limiting solutes for DP reaction kinetics.
