Abstract
A frequency-domain analytical model is presented for a reverse-flow, three-duct, open-end perforated element muffler, starting with the basic equations of mass continuity, momentum balance and isentropicity. The transfer matrix so derived is used in predictions of level difference (or the so-called noise reduction) across such a muffler, which are shown to compare quite well with the measured values, for a moving as well as stationary medium.
