Abstract
We study a system of anyons with the statistics parameter 6=jr/p, where p is a large integer. We use a recently developed first-order perturbation expansion about the bosonic limit 9=0, which produces a pairwise repulsive 8-function potential. In addition, the anyons move in an average statistical magnetic field, and there is a repulsive Coulomb potential between density fluctuations. In the ground state, we assume that all the anyons live in the lowest Landau level. We then argue that the anyons must be equally distributed amongst an orthonormal set of lowest Landau states, and that this set must be arranged as a regular lattice called a Pippard network. At zero temperature, a system of neutral anyons has a superfluid phonon mode with a linear dispersion relation, and charged anyons exhibit the Meissner effect. The Coulomb potential is crucial to obtain these properties, as without it we get a low-energy gap in the spectrum and the integer quantum Hall effect for bosons. Finally, we estimate that the ground state has about 4% of the anyons living in the higher Landau levels.
