Abstract

Nanomaterial properties vary with size, shape, and synthesis methods. This letter compares the photoluminescence (PL) and cathodoluminescence (CL) properties of Eu-doped Gd2O3 microspheres, nanorods, and nanoparticle shaped morphologies. Results reveal that while CL and PL emission peaks remain unchanged, their intensities vary with factors like size, surface area, and the excitation source. Electron-hole transport differs between emission processes, with defects enhancing CL and diminishing PL intensity, leading to distinct intensity profiles, useful for various optical applications. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.
