Abstract

A transverse injection of nitrogen gas into a Mach 2.2 primary flow in an isolator-combustor flow path at the scramjet facility of the Indian Institute of Science is studied. The jet is sonic and is injected normally through a slot of 1mm width. The bottom and top walls are equipped with pressure sensors, and the shadowgraph technique is used to visualize the near-jet flow features. As the jet momentum flux ratio (J) increases, the bow shock gains strength and disrupts the top wall boundary layer, separating the same. This case is identified as the onset of separation. All the cases beyond this criterion are observed with an upstream propagation of the top wall separation shock. It further exhibits quasi-steady phases upon interaction with the reattachment shock and the jet. © 2023, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. All rights reserved.
