Abstract

This paper introduces a new guidance design methodology using the bifurcation theory of dynamical systems for stand-off target tracking against stationary targets. A two-parameter transcritical bifurcation in line-of-sight distance dynamics is proposed where different choices of the bifurcation parameters result in line-of-sight distance settling to different equilibrium points corresponding to different stand-off radii. An important feature of the proposed guidance law is the ability to control the time taken by the UAV to settle on the desired stand-off circle. Overall, the guidance law has a simple structure with deterministic line-of-sight distance dynamics. © 2022, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc. All rights reserved.
