Abstract

The optimization of the two-dimensional inlet for N ramps and M cowl has been reported. Gradient-based optimization techniques are used to minimize total pressure loss across the system of shocks. The geometry is then generated based on the optimization process. Different case studies have been taken to compare the effect of a number of ramps and cowl on the performance of the intake. The results from the code are then compared with a CFD package. As found in the previous study, for optimum conditions, the pressure rises across each ramp and each cowl were equal was reported. A quasi-one-dimensional model was formulated to design the isolator and combustor geometry for the optimized inlet. Variation of normalized pressure rise and shock train length along the length of the engine was reported at different equivalence ratios for hydrogen as fuel. © 2022, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc.
