Abstract
The present research investigated the performance characteristics of multilayer stack actuator fabricated using the novel lead-free BaZr0.05Ti0.95O3(BZT) piezoceramic material in the high field amplitude and low frequency dynamic regime. A systematic approach was undertaken, firstly, to experimentally study the electromechanical strain and degree of hysteresis of a single layer, and evaluate the dependency on the field amplitude and frequency. Based on the obtained characteristics of the single layer, a careful choice of the combination of field amplitude and frequency was implemented to study the free stroke of a multilayer stack actuator. The novel material based stack actuator fabricated at the laboratory scale yielded encouraging results for high precision actuatoric applications. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
