The physics of the light flavoured sector is crucial to our understanding of the Standard Model. In this talk we briefly review the status of the determination of the strong coupling constant alpha(S), the light-quark masses and the mixing angles as summarized by recent lattice compilations. We also discuss advances in keystone quantities such as the neutral pion lifetime and the pion-nucleon sigma term. We discuss the status of CP violation in the light quark sector and hadronic contributions to the anomalous magnetic moment of the pion in light of the upcoming Fermilab experiment.
