Abstract
An efficient Friedel-Crafts alkylation of aromatic compounds with ethyl alpha -chloro-alpha-(ethylthio)acetate catalysed by ytterbium triflate, followed by desulfurisation of the product provides a convenient methodology for the synthesis of ethyl arylacetates of aromatic and heteroaromatic compounds.
