Abstract

A review with 10 references, on 2 types of rapid inactivation of the activity of microsomal hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA (HMG-CoA) reductase. The 1st involves the cytosolic protein, fermodulin, and free $Fe^{2+}$, which appear to mask the SH groups at the active site. The 2nd uses the hemin-dependent oxidn. of dithiol groups in the presence of $O_2$, leading to inactivation of the enzyme.
