The formation and thermal stability of oligo(dG) and poly(rC) hybrid helixes were studied by UV spectroscopy and melting temp. (Tm) measurements. The thermodynamic parameters (DH and DS) and the stability const. of hybrid helix formation were calculated. The hybrid helixes are less stable than the corresponding ribo analogs. This is significant from a biol. standpoint, since hybrid helixes are transiently formed and dissocd. during transcription.
