Abstract

A kinetic study of the polymer ignition processes has been carried out from the ignition delay measurements at different temperatures. The process was found to have a low activation energy, and from a comparison with the results of the kinetic study of the polymer gasification, it is argued that the rate controlling step could be the gasification of the degradation products. A pyrolysis gas chromatographic study of several polymers support the above conclusion.
