$SiO_2$-clad Si fibers were prepd. by heating Si powder in a quartz capillary tube and drawing while the Si was molten and the quartz was soft. MOS devices were obtained by etching away parts of the $SiO_2$ with boiling KOH and depositing Ag paste electrodes on the exposed Si and the $SiO_2$.
