Abstract

EELS and XPS studies show the presence of both adsorbed at. and mol. O at low temperatures. The nature of the oxide layer formed on the surface was characterized by LEED and angular dependent and variable temperature EELS. A loss peak approximately 550 $cm^{-1}$ is assigned to an electronic transition. Results of MS-X calculations on X adsorbed on Zn surface are also discussed.
