Abstract

Transcription in isolated nuclei from germinated rice (Oryza sativa) embryos was significant, whereas it was negligible in the nuclei of ungerminated embryos, though all 3 RNA polymerases were present. The nuclei of ungerminated embryos contained all the mature rRNAs along with the heterodisperse RNAs. In germinating embryos, the 5 S and 5.8 S rRNAs appear in the ribosome by about 9 h after imbibition.
