Abstract
A series of silicate glasses based on $PbO-B_2O_3-SiO_2, PbO-Al_2O_3-SiO_2, Bi_2O_3-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ and $PbO-PbF_2-SiO_2$ have been studied using solid-state magic-angle-spinning (MAS) NMR of $^{29}Si, ^{27}A1$ and $^{11}B$ nuclei. Al is found to be always four-coordinated in all these glasses. Si is present mostly as $Q_2$ or $Q_3$. Four-coordinated boron dominates the $^{11}B$ spectra. Calculated partial charges on Al, Si and B have been used to provide a rationale for the observed spectral features.
