Abstract

We report on the synthesis of ZnO hybrid (porous and sheetlike) microstructures and its potential as dark catalyst. The sonocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B (Rh B) solution has been investigated to prove the concept of dark catalysis. Maximum of 76.7 of RhB degradation has been achieved in 180 min of ultrasonication. Increase in luminescence of terephthelic acid at 420 nm serve as a proof for hydroxyl radical generation and its active participation in the catalysis process. Presented results may motivate the researchers to explore the applicability of the different dark catalysts in near future especially when utilization of solar light is limited. © 2019 Author(s).
