We present a brief overview of computational studies of elastic stress effects during precipitation of coherent particles. These studies include those which employ a continuum model, an atomistic (microscopic) model, and a field model. Their relative merits and limitations are discussed. Also, elastic stress effects during precipitation are presented in order to highlight the capabilities of the different computational techniques used in these studies (37 refs.)
