Classical and quantum theory of extended objects, or particles with internal degrees of freedom, played an important role in physics in the last two decades spurred mainly by the goal of understanding the structure of hadrons. There are many forms of this theory, depending on how one introduces the internal variables and the equations of motion. Group theory, especially for dynamical groups, is central to all such relativistic models. Here two classical models are considered by postulating a Lagrangian with internal degrees of freedom with the goal of having a linear mass-spin relation in a quantized theory.
