Abstract
The nature of the electric field effects in high temperature superconductors has sparked a certain amount of controversy. It is a matter of non-negligible technological signifi-cance whether these effects are fundamentally electronic, characterized by a fast time constant, or whether instead or possibly, in addition an oxygen diffusion process, driven by the oxygen electric dipole moments and characterized by a much slower time constant, is involved.
