Abstract

A chemical method for the determination of hole concentration in superconducting thallium cuprates is described. The method is based on selective oxidation of bromide ion by holes on $CuO_2$ sheets. Application of this method to several thallium cuprates has provided some insight into the origin of holes in these materials.
