Abstract
In this paper the dynamic behavior of mechanical hydraulic and electro-hydraulic governors across different steam turbines are emulated on a 5 kVA micro-alternator as a part of the smart grid experimental testbed development. Emulated models include single and double reheat steam turbines, with detailed discussions on control architecture and tuning procedures. The performance of the emulated turbine models is tested under islanded conditions with full load and the SMIB test-bed system for small and large disturbances in MATLAB/SIMULINK and validated experimentally. © 2024 IEEE.
