Abstract

Power Quality and Energy Audits are critical for any organization, as they determine the reliability of power systems and the longevity of sensitive electronic equipment. Issues such as high ground-to-neutral voltage levels, phase imbalances, and low power factor can cause equipment malfunctions. This comprehensive power analysis addresses these concerns by evaluating power quality parameters, including voltage and current THD, power factor, and current unbalance, at critical points within the electrical infrastructure, which includes a 66kV Main Receiving Station (MRS) and 25 substations connected via 11kV transformers. Sensitive research instrumentation is particularly vulnerable to power quality fluctuations, risking premature aging and damage. By implementing systematic power quality checks and mitigation strategies, organizations can ensure the safety, reliability, and efficiency of their electrical systems. This study highlights the need for a collaborative approach to optimize performance and reliability, using a case study of one of the 25 substations to provide key measurements, analysis, and recommendations. © 2024 IEEE.
