Abstract

The effect of vorticity on boundary layers is important. In order to understand the role of vorticity on the boundary layer, Li [1,2], Glauert [3] and Murray [4] have considered the incompressible fluic flow over a flat plate. Stuart [5] has studied the incompressible flow in the neighbourhood of a tow-dimensional stagnation point with a constant vorticity in the incoming flow. Dey and Nath [6] have used parabolic coordinates to study the effect of uniform vorticity on the incompressible flow over a semi-infinite flat plate. The above studies pertain to steady flows. However, in many physical problems, the free stream shear may depend on time. It may be noted that the two-dimensional nonsteady motion of incompressible viscous fluid without voriticity in the free stream in the vicinity of a forward stagnation point has been studied by Rott [7], Yang [8] and Williams [9].
