Abstract

This paper proposes a cooperative strategy to encircle multiple static target regions using teams of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Given the center and radius of the enclosing circle of target regions, the UAVs are proportionally distributed among the target regions. A greedy solution is presented to form teams of UAVs and assign them to respective targets. For a given team, a Multi-UAV encirclement strategy is presented to circumnavigate around the target region with equal angular spacing. Simulation studies are carried out to validate the proposed encirclement methodology, and multiple target scenarios are considered to show the efficacy of the cooperative target allocation strategy. © 2024 by Gautam Kumar, Ashwini Ratnoo.
