Abstract

This study uses an optical sensor utilizing a manganese metalorganic framework (Mn-MOF) to detect tetracycline in wastewater. tetracycline was directly detected through fluorescence quenching with the dispersion of Mn-MOF in an ethanol solution, enabling direct tetracycline detection. The sensor has a notable detection limit of 66.39 nM and can detect tetracycline in the linear detection range spanning from 0.0032 to 0.43 µM. It has been found that Mn-MOF demonstrated excellent selectivity for tetracycline in the presence of other antibiotics. This selectivity suggests promising applications for environmental monitoring, showing the sensors potential in effectively quantifying tetracycline amidst complex matrices found in wastewater. This sensor emerges as a crucial advancement in remediation strategies and environmental monitoring by addressing the challenge of tetracycline contamination. Its selectivity, sensitivity, and ability to operate within complex environments marks a significant step forward in developing efficient and reliable detection methods for tetracycline detection in wastewater and environmental protection. © The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society 2024.
