Abstract

In a single-pulse-operated switched reluctance generator (SRG), the turn-on and turn-off switching angles are termed control inputs at a given dc-bus voltage and prime-mover speed. The control output is the average dc-bus current of the SRG. To regulate the output of SRG, determining the rate of change of average dc-bus/output current with respect to the control inputs is crucial. This paper proposes the mathematical expressions for online estimating the rate of change of average output current (rate parameter) with respect to turn-on and turn-off switching instants in a single-pulse operated SRG. The online estimation of rate parameters requires instantaneous phase currents, dc-bus voltage, and rotor position. The magnetic-core saturation and mutual flux-linkage are ignored. The accuracy of online estimation of rate parameters is validated through multiple simulations and experiments on an 8/6-pole, 4-phase SRG. The online identification of rate parameters makes the proposed method useful for real-time control of single-pulse operated SRG. © 2023 IEEE.
