Abstract

In this research, phase identification and crystallographic parameters were determined using Rietveld refinement approach to assess the influence of the second-phase (Intermetallic compounds) on the mechanical and microstructural characteristics of friction stir welded AZ31 alloy. The Rietveld-fitted XRD analysis determined welded samples consist of a mixed phase (cubic and hexagonal) comprising fractional value of 99.52 Mg and 0.48 Al12Mg17. Based on the results, it was found that the fractional percentage of IMCs directly influences the mechanical properties. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.
