Abstract

Non-ohmic conduction and electrical switching have been observed in methyltriphenyl-arsonium-$(TCNQ)_2$ at different pressures up to 8 GPa at a temperature of 300 K. Pulsed current-voltage characteristics reveal a heating contribution to non-ohmic conduction and switching. The switching time recorded is 0.5 ms. Pressure dependence of switching field follows the same functional form as that of resistivity versus pressure. Non-ohmic conduction is discussed in terms of space-charge-limited currents which lead to a structural phase transition at high fields $\sim3X10^3$ V/cm to a highly conducting state with $\sigma_{ON}/\sigma_{OFF}\approx10^3$.
