Abstract
This paper presents the evolution of a remote online diagnostic tool to evaluate the plausibility of the operation of any system having a signature sound. As a case in point example, a web enabled Fast Fourier Transformation tool has been developed for real time evaluation of pressure-crank angle trace(s) of a spark ignited engine to detect frequencies in the 5–25 kHz regime, typical of engine abnormal combustion. The goal of this work is to develop an interface for accessing real time temporal data representative of the system operation for typical electro-mechanical system, either from the on-board diagnostic system or from a central repository system in the cloud and process the same through appropriate DSP techniques to identify outlier frequencies and diagnose the potential cause of the same.
