Abstract

Two dimensional repeating unit cells (2D-RUCs) with matrix embedded between two half fibers have been used to study the kink band formation in uni-directional fiber reinforced polymer (UD-FRP) composites at the micro-scale. Fiber failure, plasticity based matrix damage and fiber matrix debonding are the three damage mechanisms considered in the present work. The homogenized compressive response of composite with the above mentioned damage modes is shown in current framework along with the obtained kink band characteristics. The effect of half wavelength (λ) on kink band width and kink band rotation (αk ) has been shown. © 2020, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. All rights reserved.
