Abstract

There has been an alarming situation globally regarding food security. The balance between food supply and demand has been unstable due to factors such as pest infestation, phytopathogens, weeds, etc. The necessity for new technologies for improving the present scenario of food crises without negative impact on the environment is the need of the hour. A wide array of nanomaterials and applications to counter the aforementioned challenges has been in development providing new avenues against countering food crisis. Nanotechnology has been prominent in food sector due to a myriad of applications nanopesticides, nanofertilizers, and nanosensors, with the collective goal to support the efficiency and sustainability of agricultural practices, medicinal fields, including drug delivery, water conservation, water resource management, wastewater treatment, poultry farming, and food processing. Nanoencapsulation in agriculture, poultry, and food would enable the controlled-mediated targeted delivery, protective coating with the advantage of biodegradability, nontoxicity, and biocompatibility. The much required product-based research for direct applications in food sector has been provided by nanotechnology. The hurdles of biomagnification, soil fertility could essentially be addressed by nanotechnology. Hence, the present chapter has been on focused current status of nanoparticle-based systems in agriculture, poultry, and food.
