Abstract

This article reviews the Photoacoustic technique and its application in spectroscopic and calorimetric studies on chalcogenide semiconducting glasses. A detailed analysis of the Photoacoustic (PA) signal production is presented, showing the signal dependence on the optical, thermal and geometric parameters of the sample and the other interacting layers that are part of the system. Particular attention is focused on the conditions under which optical absorption spectra and thermal properties of the sample can be elicited from the signal. The experimental procedures for measuring the above mentioned parameters of the sample are then described. Finally, a review of studies conducted on several chalcogenide based semiconducting glasses is presented.
