Abstract

In this paper, a soft-switched isolated active clamp boost power factor correction (PFC) topology is analyzed and its operation is elucidated. A modulation scheme that is inspired by the modulation of the traditional boost PFC topology is presented. The small-signal model of the isolated active clamp boost PFC converter is derived in a systematic manner. A suitable control strategy is discussed to achieve both DC voltage regulation and input current shaping. A 1 kW rated hardware prototype is constructed and hardware-based experimental results are presented to validate the proposed control scheme. © 2022 IEEE.
