Abstract

A numerical method which employs moving grid has been presented for computing multiple moving boundaries. Numerical solution has been obtained for a solidification problem in which freezing takes place over a temperature range. It has been shown that implicit boundary conditions at the moving boundaries can be tackled by considering an appropriate explicit boundary condition. Two models have been considered for the solid fraction in the mushy region and the validity of these models has been discussed in the light of integral heat balance.
