The intensive use of agrochemicals in the agriculture sector has led to serious environmental and health problems. Various chemical and biological processes, including oxidation, ozonation, chlorination, fluid extraction, and membrane separation, have been implemented to remediate pesticides from the ecosystem. However, these techniques do not offer the complete elimination of pesticides from the water. There is a need to develop a highly efficient technique that could be eco-friendly and cost-effective and offer a high removal rate of pesticides. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have emerged as the competent fundamental and promising technique for the efficient removal of pesticides from wastewater. AOPs usually produce oxidizing radical species are capable of mineralizing and degrading pesticides into nontoxic compounds and inorganics. This chapter aims to review the various AOPs (Fenton and photocatalytic), their mode of action, and their efficiency in eliminating pesticides. Attempts have also been made to summarize the scenarios and consequences of these technological processes. © 2022 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
