Abstract
The May 22, 1997 (Mw 5.8) earthquake occurred ~8 km southeast of the city of Jabalpur in the state of Madhya Pradesh in the central India (Fig. 6.1). Occurrence of this event four years after the devastating 1993 Killari earthquake reinforced the hitherto underestimated seismic vulnerability in Peninsular India.
