Abstract
The August 15, 1950, Mw 8.6 earthquake is the largest among those that occurred in the Himalaya during the last 200 years. Popularly known as the Assam earthquake (and as Chayu or Medog earthquake), this event had originated in the rugged mountainous areas between the Himalaya and the Hengudan (southwest China), with its located in the China-Tibet region north of a village known as Rima (Fig. 15.1).
