Liver health is imperative to overall wellness. A dysfunctional liver can lead to a range of liver and also metabolic disorders. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a prime liver cancer mostly affects people with chronic liver disease and cirrhosis. Despite significant breakthrough in study of liver ailments over the past decades, HCC has remained a serious worldwide health burden. Lasting chronic infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) or hepatitis C virus (HCV) is the underlying factor for hepatocarcinogenesis. These conditions cause cirrhosis of liver and blame for liver cancer becoming the most persistent malignancy in various regions throughout the world. This chapter discusses the predominance of HBV and HCV, which impact the progress of chronic liver illness and ultimately HCC. This also emphases on the assessment and conditioning of cirrhosis and hepatitis, their related complications, and commonly associated symptoms and disorders at different levels. It also provides a concise overview of mechanism underlying cooperative effect of cirrhosis and hepatitis on the prognosis of HCC. © 2022 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
