Abstract
Mode Division Multiplexing (MDM) over Few Mode Fiber (FMF) enhances the capacity of an optical fiber system by providing additional degrees of freedom in the form of modes which are selectively excited at the transmitter and selectively detected at the receiver. The key to capitalize on such a system is implementation of low loss mode multiplexer (mux) and de-multiplexer (de-mux) with low modal crosstalk. In this paper we dwell upon design and software implementation of such a low loss mode mux and de-mux for Two Mode Fiber (TMF).
