Abstract
Among species found under tree bark, perhaps the most unique are the ambrosia beetles. Many insects live off dead trees, but in most cases, only the larvae live in the wood; the adults fly about to feed and mate. The uniqueness of the bark beetles is that insects in all life stages live entirely in the wood. The ambrosia beetles, among bark beetles, are further unique: they don’t feed on the wood itself but use it to cultivate fungi and eat their agricultural produce.
