Abstract

Investigations on the morphological modifications due to aging in service on the rail traction catenary conductors are conducted. Modifications on in-service aged and laboratory aged traction conductors are studied using electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD). EBSD is a versatile technique which is used to understand the grain size, texture, and microstructure relationships within the material. Further, an attempt is made to simulate field conditions in the laboratory and studied, and the investigated samples are compared with the aged and fresh sample. Some interesting changes observed at the microstructure on the conductors are discussed are presented. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
